Recap of One Piece Chapter 1156

One Piece Chapter 1156 was rich with flashbacks, focusing on legendary figures such as Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp, and Rocks D. Xebec.

The chapter, titled “Idols,” begins with a flashback set 40 years ago, showcasing the Kuja Pirates as celebrated figures of the world. This all-female crew from the Kuja tribe of Amazon Lily was led by Captain Gloriosa, with Shakuyaku serving as her first mate.

The narrative then shifts to the Kuja Pirates' encounter with the Roger Pirates. The Roger crew struggles to engage in battle, mesmerized by Shakuyaku’s renowned beauty. While Gol D. Roger himself is captivated by her, Shakuyaku has her sights set on Silvers Rayleigh, while Gloriosa harbors feelings for Roger.

Suddenly, they are ambushed by Monkey D. Garp and his marines. The Kuja Pirates manage to escape, but the Roger Pirates must confront the marines. Garp and Roger engage in a fierce clash, with Garp using his fists and Roger wielding his sword, Ace, resulting in the spread of Conqueror’s Haki throughout the area.

Following this intense encounter, the story introduces the Rocks Pirates, featuring new members such as Big Mom, Kaido, Captain John, and Silver Axe. In this scene, Xebec reveals his ambitious plan to overthrow the World Government and destroy Mary Geoise. He also expresses his desire to obtain two legendary Devil Fruits, one of which is located in Elbaph, and seeks King Harald's assistance in consuming the Devil Fruit.

Shakuyaku

Shakuyaku, commonly known as Shakky, is the bartender of Shakky's Rip-off Bar on the Sabaody Archipelago, where she resides with her husband, Silvers Rayleigh. She serves as a minor ally to the Straw Hat Pirates during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. A former empress of the Kuja tribe and captain of the Kuja Pirates, Shakky comes from a lineage that includes Gloriosa, her predecessor, and Boa Hancock, her successor. She has a notable history of being pursued by the legendary Marine, Monkey D. Garp, and was sought after by the Roger Pirates.

Shakky is a tall, slim woman with short black hair styled in two upward tufts. She is often seen smoking a cigarette and appears remarkably youthful despite her age. Her typical outfit consists of a pink V-neck t-shirt that reveals her stomach and cleavage, adorned with a black spider motif, layered under a black jacket with pink accents and wing-like cuffs. She completes her look with a yellow beaded necklace, giraffe-patterned pants, and a belt with a white cardigan tied around it, along with white shoes and painted fingernails.

Twenty-two years ago, her appearance was largely the same, though she wore slightly different clothing, including a more revealing A-shirt and short pants, omitting her current necklace and jacket.

In her youth, Shakky was renowned for her beauty, even surpassing her captain, Gloriosa. With longer black hair and a revealing outfit that included a short sarong and a dark cape, she attracted the attention of Gol D. Roger and several members of the Roger Pirates, who were so infatuated with her that they attempted to abduct her.

Shakky is highly knowledgeable and constantly seeks information, particularly about other pirates. She has a habit of obsessively reading newspapers, firmly believing that knowledge is power. She was the one who informed Luffy about the nine other pirates with bounties exceeding 100 million. Rarely seen without a cigarette, she is also intuitive, successfully deducing Hancock's and Luffy's plan to infiltrate Impel Down, even recognizing Hancock's feelings for Luffy.

Shakuyaku

She seems to be secretive about her age; when Luffy inquired about how old she was after learning she had stopped being a pirate forty years ago, she quickly changed the subject, only mentioning that she had been chased by Luffy's grandfather. After a brief encounter with Luffy, she expressed her admiration for him and voiced her support for his ambition to become the Pirate King, particularly given her awareness of Rayleigh's past as the first mate of Gol D. Roger and the similarities between Roger and Luffy.

Shakky enjoys teasing others, once playfully tricking Chopper into thinking he needed to pay an exorbitant price for cotton candy. While she is known for charging high prices for her goods, she made an exception for Hatchan and the Straw Hats. She appreciates those who know when to avoid conflict, which is why she favors Luffy over Eustass Kid, who tends to attack indiscriminately, even innocent civilians, for trivial reasons despite having a higher bounty.

As a former empress of the Kuja tribe and captain of the Kuja Pirates, Shakky possesses the ability to use Haki, a skill shared by all members of her tribe.

Gloriosa

Gloriosa, commonly referred to as "Elder Nyon," serves as an advisor to the current empress of the Kuja tribe, Boa Hancock. She is a former empress from three generations prior to Hancock, having once captained the Kuja Pirates, and was also a member of the legendary Rocks Pirates. Remarkably diminutive in stature, Gloriosa has thick lips and is marked by the wrinkles of old age. She wears a sea-green bubble belt, which holds up the spotted-print short skirt typical of the Kuja tribe, along with a cape. Her hair is white, and she adorns her head with a pink flower on the left side.

In her youth, while part of the Rocks Pirates, Gloriosa was a tall, slender, and strikingly beautiful woman with reddish-pink hair. She wore a revealing blue V-neck blouse and a loose sarong that showcased her long legs, emblazoned with the Kuja symbol, along with a white cape featuring epaulettes typically seen on high-ranking Marines. While admired for her beauty, she was often overshadowed by her subordinate, Shakuyaku.

Gloriosa

In her first colored appearance during the opening "Share the World," Gloriosa's color scheme differs from the anime, featuring a blue evening wear top instead of the pink-bordered burgundy. Her Snake Weapon is also depicted in purple rather than white, serving as both her staff and a curled-up snake.

Gloriosa embodies the archetype of a wise elder, demonstrating deep concern for Amazon Lily and possessing knowledge that surpasses that of her fellow Kuja. She often requests books from the Kuja Pirates and owns a crystal ball, further enhancing her image as a sage. However, her gullibility is revealed when she mistakenly believes some of Hancock's manipulations regarding the World Government's terms for war. Despite this, she can recover from Hancock's emotional manipulations faster than most.

Although she is no longer the empress, Gloriosa believes she can still roam freely, choosing instead to live on the outskirts of the island due to being labeled a traitor. When Hancock accuses her of worrying about her own life, Gloriosa calmly states that she is too old to concern herself with that, expressing her worries for others on the island instead.

Gloriosa

Unlike many of her fellow Kuja, Gloriosa does not share their misandrist tendencies, likely due to her past experiences with men. Nevertheless, she strictly adheres to the Kuja law prohibiting men from entering Amazon Lily, allowing only a few exceptions.

Gloriosa frequently uses the phrase "Nyo," incorporating it into many words during her speech. She possesses more knowledge than most of her peers, easily identifying Luffy as a man upon seeing him. Her strong willpower allows her to resist Hancock's charms more effectively than most. Despite her advanced age, Gloriosa retains impressive agility; she not only survived being thrown from a building but also landed on her feet unharmed. Her status as a former member of the notorious Rocks Pirates further attests to her formidable nature.

As the former empress of the Kuja, Gloriosa is also capable of using Haki, a skill shared by all members of her tribe.

Rocks D. Xebec

Rocks D. Xebec, commonly known as Rocks, was the notorious captain of the Rocks Pirates and the father of Marshall D. Teach, one of the current Emperors. His ultimate ambition was to become the King of the World. Rocks was a significant figure four decades ago, long before the rise of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. He assembled one of the most formidable and infamous pirate crews in history. However, his reign came to an end during the God Valley Incident, where he was defeated by an alliance between Monkey D. Garp and Roger, which earned Garp the title of "Hero of the Marines."

Rocks was characterized by his extreme ambition, sadism, and cruelty, showing little regard for those he harmed in his quest for power. He led his crew in spreading chaos and destruction across the seas, attacking anyone who stood in his way, including World Nobles and their slaves. He displayed a complete lack of compassion, even towards children, as evidenced by his brutal treatment of a young giant named Loki.

Rocks D. Xebec

Driven by his dream of becoming the King of the World, Rocks attacked numerous locations, leaving devastation in his wake to assert his dominance. His curiosity about the secrets kept by the World Government led him to explore many forbidden subjects, making him one of the few individuals to learn about the existence of Imu, the secret ruler of the world. According to Whitebeard, Rocks was often careless in his pursuits, losing focus on his objectives and acting independently. He famously stated that he would not accept "no" as an answer.

Rocks claimed to be a "worshipper of Davy Jones" and engaged in the pirate tradition of Davy Back Fights, using these events to recruit powerful pirates into his crew. Unlike others, he prioritized quality over quantity, carefully selecting high-profile and formidable individuals to join his ranks.

Rocks was renowned as one of the most powerful pirates in history, leading a crew filled with exceptionally strong members, many of whom had conflicting personalities. After the crew's dissolution, several members, including Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom), and Kaidou, became infamous figures in their own right, forming three-quarters of the original Four Emperors during the Great Pirate Era. Another notable member, Shiki, emerged as a rival to Roger and Whitebeard after Rocks' death.

Before becoming a pirate, Rocks achieved the remarkable feat of killing a Marine Admiral, earning him a substantial bounty. He possessed immense superhuman strength, capable of destroying the Gate of Justice single-handedly and winning numerous Davy Back Fights against powerful opponents. His status as a formidable rival to Gol D. Roger was well recognized, and it took both Roger and Garp working together to finally defeat him. This defeat solidified Garp's legendary status and highlighted the threat Rocks posed to the World Government.

In addition to his raw strength, Rocks was also highly intelligent and knowledgeable. His studies of taboo subjects allowed him to uncover many secrets of the World Government, prompting them to erase his name from history after his defeat. Rocks was cunning and opportunistic, even stealing the Heavenly Tribute of the Celestial Dragons to fund his piracy.

As a swordsman, Rocks was exceptionally powerful, known for strikes that could obliterate anything in their path. His clashes with King Harald of Elbaph, an Ancient Giant, resulted in shockwaves that affected the surrounding area for miles. Rocks was one of the few individuals known to possess Supreme King Haki, which he could infuse into his sword, significantly enhancing its power.

Rocks primarily wielded a sword infused with his Haki but was also skilled with other weapons, including an axe and firearms, which he used during Davy Back Fights. He even employed a pistol during his confrontation with Imu at the Levely.
